Manitoba Moose open season on Oct. 6, sign two newcomers

WINNIPEG — The Manitoba Moose will open the 2017-18 season on the road.

The American Hockey League announced the dates and opponent for all of the 30 teams’ home openers and the Moose will kick off the campaign in Grand Rapids on Friday, Oct. 6. The Moose will open the home portion of their schedule a week later on Friday, Oct. 13 against the Cleveland Monsters.

The Moose also announced they’ve signed two new players. The Moose signed defenceman Kirill Gotovets and Chris Dienes to one-year contracts.

Gotovets, 26, played with Minsk Dynamo of the Kontinental Hockey League last season. He registered one goal and five assists in 24 games. The seventh round draft pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning has previous AHL experience after he suited up for the Rockford IceHogs in the 2015-16 season.

Dienes, 24, just completed a four year stint with Western Michigan University. He amassed 41 points over 127 games including three goals and two assists in 21 games in his senior season. Dienes also appeared in five games with the Adirondack Thunder of the ECHL when the college season was complete.

The rest of the AHL schedule will be released on Tuesday.
