A memorial ceremony in honour of Matthew Schreindorfer was held in Laval Sunday evening.

Schreindorfer first came into the spotlight three years ago, when he and his family raised close to $1 million for experimental cancer treatment in New York City.

He was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) just two months after marrying Katia Luciani, his high school sweetheart, in 2014.

The next three years were filled with ups and downs as Schreindorfer continued to relapse.

An outdoor ceremony, open to the public, was held in Laval’s Jardin des Mémoires, located at 2159, Saint-Martin Boul. East in Laval.

The memorial began at 7 p.m., but those wishing to attend were asked to arrive at 6:45 p.m.

During the ceremony, a memorial plaque and bench were unveiled.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked for those who wished to honour Schreindorfer’s legacy to consider donating blood or platelets, or to consider becoming a bone marrow donor.
