The Château Vaudreuil hotel has come to symbolize the region of Vaudreuil-Soulange, opening long before the real estate boom took off.
Now, rumours are flying that the iconic hotel, located at 21700 Route Transcanadienne in Vaudreuil-Dorion, has been sold.
“It would be sad, it’s a nice place here and it kind of makes it Vaudreuil,” said Claudia Lefebvre-Fustos, a waitress at a nearby restaurant.
“I wouldn’t like condos. There are condos everywhere.”
The hotel first opened in 1989 by the Migliorati family at its strategic location, just off Highway 40 on Lac-des-Deux-Montagnes — a gamble, considering the area wasn’t much more than one to drive through on the way to Ontario.
Now, the 116-suite hotel and its 25-acres is an iconic structure in a booming neighbourhood.
The residential and commercial real estate growth is among the fastest in the country, according to Statistics Canada.
It’s unclear who will be purchasing the hotel, but many residents hope the new owners will maintain it as a château.
