WINNIPEG – Multiple fire crews rushed to a home engulfed in flames late Monday afternoon.
Fire crews responded to the call at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Rose Garden Crescent.
There were no injuries as a result of the blaze. Four people were in the home but safely escaped. The homes on either side of the fire were evacuated as a precaution.
“It was intense. It was a fast burning fire,” District Chief Chris Carey said. Fire could be seen shooting through the roof of the home from Global’s Skyview-1 helicopter.
Seven fire crews responded to the fire. According to Carey, they needed more crews working than usual because of the freezing temperatures. Crew members were at time encased in ice and had to work in shifts.
Multiple witnesses said they heard a small explosion before the fire started but no official cause has been released into what started the blaze.
Officials called the home a “total loss”.
