Episode 1 – The Stars Menace: Texas Stars spoil Star Wars Day for Manitoba Moose

The Manitoba Moose talk things over during a second period timeout on Saturday. True North Sports & Entertainment

WINNIPEG – The Manitoba Moose certainly didn’t have the force on Saturday.

The Texas Stars spoiled Star Wars Day at MTS Centre as they defeated the Moose 6-1. Playing in front of their biggest crowd of the season the Moose had their three game win streak snapped. Manitoba opened their four game homestand in front of 10,203 people, many of whom were decked out in Star Wars gear.

Trailing by a single goal after 20 minutes, the Moose unraveled in the second period as they surrendered four goals in the middle frame. The Stars received goals from Matt Mangene, Brandon DeFazio, Denis Gurianov, Austin Fyten, Mike McMurtry and Jason Dickinson.

Julian Melchiori ruined Maxime Lagace’s shutout bid in the game’s final minute. Kale Kessy had the only assist on Melchiori’s second goal of the season. Lagace finished the game with 26 stops for Texas.
