A 47-year-old woman has died after emergency crews found her inside a burning house in Toronto’s north end, officials said.

A Toronto Fire Services spokesman said crews were called to a house on Elmhurst Avenue, near Yonge Street and Sheppard Avenue West, just after 3:30 p.m. after flames were seen coming out of the property.

Firefighters found the woman inside and brought her out to waiting paramedics, who rushed her to hospital with a police escort where she later died.

Toronto Paramedics said the woman was transported without vital signs.

The fire was knocked down about 20 minutes after the initial call and the spokesman said it was considered minor.
