Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall has responded to Donald Trump winning the United States presidential election, highlighting areas of positivity and concern.
Wall said he is hopeful the Keystone XL pipeline will move forward, due to Trump’s support for the project as well as Republican majorities in the House and the Senate.

“I am hopeful that this important project will move ahead quickly,” Wall said in a statement.
As for the carbon tax, Wall said, “the election result means we will not be seeing a carbon tax in the U.S. anytime soon.”
He pointed to Washington State voting against Initiative 732, which would have imposed a carbon tax at $15 a ton in July before going up $25 the next year.
“It makes no sense for our federal government to push ahead with imposing a national carbon tax, when our biggest trading partner – and our biggest competitor for investment and jobs – is not going to have one,” Wall said.
However, Wall said he hopes Trump will reconsider ending the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
He also urged Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the federal government to reach out to the new United States administration to talk about NAFTA and other issues.
