One man is dead and five other people are recovering in hospital after four shootings overnight in Mississauga and Toronto.

Peel Regional Police received several calls of a disturbance at a special events space behind a church in the area of Queen and Church streets in Mississauga just before 4 a.m. A spokesman said police found the man with multiple gunshots and the man died at the scene.

A short time later two other victims were found with gunshot wounds in the Creditview Road and Eglinton Avenue West area. They were taken to Toronto hospitals and were listed in serious, but non-life-threatening condition as of Saturday morning.

Police haven’t connected the shooting incidents and investigators haven’t released suspect descriptions.

Meanwhile, Toronto police are investigating a pair of shootings in the city.

Emergency crews were called to a townhouse complex near The East Mall and Rathburn Road around 1:40 a.m. Saturday after two men were shot. Both were taken to hospital and one of the men is listed in serious condition.

Police haven’t released information on suspects.

At around 6 a.m., police and paramedics were called to Don Mills Road and Fairview Mall Drive after a 25-year-old man was shot. He was speaking with friends at a car when three men approached them. One of the men fired a handgun striking the victim in the leg before all three men ran south on Don Mills Road. The 25-year-old was taken to hospital in non-life-threatening condition.

Officers from 33 Division held a press conference Sunday afternoon to call attention to the incident in North York.

“We would like the community to know that we’re outraged that this occurred,” Det. David Johnson said.

“We’re doing everything we can to get the guns off the street … we want this gun off the street and we want the suspects off the street as well and held accountable for their crime.”
