A Washington State woman is accused of plotting to have a hit man kill her husband on Halloween night in order to collect his life insurance money.
Martie M. Soderberg, 39, was arrested Monday by Spokane Valley Sheriff’s detectives and charged with criminal solicitation to commit first-degree murder.

According to authorities, Soderberg had planned several hire-to-kill plots, one of which involved having her husband shot while the couple was trick-or-treating with their kids on Halloween night.
Deputies said the the woman had recently reconnected with an old classmate over social media and asked him to carry out one of her alleged murder plots.
Soderberg and the friend met at a restaurant on Oct. 11, which police said is when she revealed her plan for the Oct. 31 shooting.
Soderberg told the friend that her husband of 15 years had verbally and physically abused her.

According to police, Soderberg told the friend that she could not leave her husband because she did not have the finances to make it on her own. But cashing in as the beneficiary on his life insurance policy would provide her with financial security.
Soderberg allegedly laid out a “better” secondary plot that would have seen her husband killed at work, which could have qualified Soderberg to collect on state payments handed out for workplace deaths.
Following the meeting, the friend approached police and agreed to help them gather more information. In follow-up meetings, the friend wore a recording device that allegedly captured Soderberg describing the specifics of her plot, including where to dispose of the weapon.
According to officials, Soderberg met with the friend on Monday to provide money for the purchase of the weapon. Shortly after that meeting Soderberg was arrested.
She is currently being held in Spokane County Jail on US $1-million bond.
