The Canadian Hockey League (CHL) has named Saskatoon Blades goalie Logan Flodell as the Vaughn CHL goaltender of the week.

The five-foot 11 Regina native made 65 saves in two games, including his first shutout of the season in a 2-0 victory over the Prince Albert Raiders on Thursday.

Flodell said he talked to his dad as soon as he heard the news.

“He said you can’t stop, you got to be consistent, you got to keep working hard,” Flodell said.

Flodell leads the league in save percentage and is third in goals against average.

Blades goaltending coach Tim Cheveldae credits hard work and big saves as reasons why Flodell was honoured.

You look at the big saves he makes during the game and those games were very close, where a save at the right moment could make a difference between a win and a loss,” Cheveldae said.

“Good for him, he’s worked hard and he’s very deserving of it.”

This is the first time in three years that a Blades goalie has been given the honour, the last being Andre Makarov in 2013.

The Blades picked up five out of six points on their three game home series, with their only loss coming in overtime to the Edmonton Oil Kings.

The Blades are back in action on Friday when they travel to Kelowna to take on the Rockets in the first game of a five-game B.C. road trip.
