WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Jets are moving on from the Ondrej Pavelec era.

After getting the bulk of the starts in goal in their first five seasons in Winnipeg, Pavelec was one of eight players re-assigned by the Jets on Monday. Pavelec must first clear waivers before he can be sent to the Manitoba Moose.

The move leaves two goaltenders with the Jets, Connor Hellebuyck and Michael Hutchinson.

The Jets also placed forward Anthony Peluso on waivers as well as defencemen Brian Strait and Julian Melchiori.

The Jets also re-assigned forwards Andrew Copp, Marko Dano, Chase De Leo and Nic Petan to the Moose.

The moves leave 24 players with the team but forwards Shawn Matthias and Brendan Lemieux have been dealing with injuries and could start the season on the injured list. All NHL clubs must get down to the 23-man limit by 4:00 pm on Tuesday.
