Winnipeg Jets chop 17 players from training camp roster

WINNIPEG – After three exhibition games the Winnipeg Jets made their first round of cuts on Saturday. The Jets re-assigned a total of 17 players, sending 11 of them to the AHL’s Manitoba Moose.

Jake Baker, Mikhail Berdin, Axel Blomqvist, Patrice Cormier, Brandon Denham, Jiri Fronk, Jimmy Lodge, Nelson Nogier, Jamie Phillips, Peter Stoykewych, and Tyson Wilson were all assigned to the Moose.

The Jets also released five players to their junior clubs. Forward Jansen Harkins has been returned to the Prince George Cougars of the Western Hockey League, Matteo Gennaro and Jordy Stallard are headed back to the Calgary Hitmen, Luke Green was sent back to Saint John of the QMJHL, and Michael Spacek was placed with the Red Deer Rebels.

The Jets also released defenceman Matt Murphy from his amateur tryout agreement.

The Jets now have 42 players left in camp not counting unsigned defenceman Jacob Trouba. The Jets will play another pre-season game on Sunday in Calgary against the Flames.
