Courteney Cox has shown what real Friends are for by speaking out about her pal, Jennifer Aniston, and all of the drama surrounding Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s divorce.

Aniston, who was married to Pitt for five years before they divorced in 2005, has become a focal point following news of the couple’s split and Cox wants the attention off of her colleague.

“I feel like we’re exacerbating it by even talking about it,” the Cougar Town star told Entertainment Tonight at Revlon’s Annual Philanthropic Luncheon at Chateau Marmont on Sept. 27.

“It’s not about her,” the 52-year-old insisted.

Cox’s statement came shortly after Aniston’s husband, Justin Theroux, offered his opinion on the matter in an interview with Business Insider, declaring it “nonsense” that his wife’s name is being brought into the situation.

“There’s [the public has] an endless appetite for trash, apparently, though everyone would say that they don’t have that appetite. But I think a lot of people do because people buy it. There are bigger things to b**ch about. It’s shocking how much bandwidth things can take up when there are far more important things going on in the world.”

Theroux added that he sympathizes with Pitt and Jolie’s six children following the news of the divorce.

“As a child of divorce, all I can say is, that’s terrible news for those children and that’s all you can really say. It’s boring to sort of comment on anything else. People are having a bad time — it’s horrible.”

The Girl on the Train actor also revealed the simple secrets to his happy union, a little over a year strong, with Aniston. “We appreciate each other’s sense of humour, we respect one another, and we get along,” he said. “I know it sounds simple but it’s true!”

This past summer, Aniston became so fed up with tabloid headlines focusing on her — at the time, related to whether or not she was pregnant — that she took it upon herself to write an essay on the topic for The Huffington Post.

“Let me start by saying that addressing gossip is something I have never done,” Aniston wrote. “I don’t like to give energy to the business of lies, but I wanted to participate in a larger conversation that has already begun and needs to continue… For the record, I am not pregnant. What I am is fed up. I’m fed up with the sport-like scrutiny and body shaming that occurs daily under the guise of ‘journalism,’ the ‘First Amendment’ and ‘celebrity news.'”

Jolie’s lawyer announced the actress had filed for divorce from Pitt on Sept. 19. The pair officially got together in 2004 after starring in Mr and Mrs Smith together. They married at Chateau Miraval in the French village of Correns in 2014.

Jolie requested physical custody and joint legal custody of their six children and asked for Pitt to be granted visitation rights.
