Inquest into 3 mental health deaths at Abbotsford Regional Hospital makes 25 recommendations

A jury at a Coroner’s inquest into the deaths of three people who died by suicide shortly after leaving Abbotsford Regional Hospital has made 25 recommendations.

Among the recommendations is setting up a separate area at the hospital for the intake of suicidal patients.

It also recommends the health ministry increase funding and resources for mental-health services.

The inquest began earlier this month to look into the deaths of Brian David Geisheimer, Sebastien Pavit Abdi and Sarah Louise Charles.

Maple Ridge resident Geisheimer, 30, died in Mission on Dec. 28, 2014; 19-year-old Abdi died at his Abbotsford home on Apr. 26, 2015 and Charles, 41, died the same day near her Abbotsford apartment building.

All three were admitted to Abbotsford Regional Hospital for mental-health issues a few days before their deaths.
