The Winnipeg Goldeyes won their third championship in franchise history. The Goldeyes defeated the Wichita Wingnuts 11-4 in an all or nothing game five on Monday at Lawrence Dumont Stadium in Wichita, KS.
The Goldeyes won the final two games to take the championship series three games to two. The Fish won four must win games in the playoffs to secure the league crown.
Winnipeg scored two runs in each the first and second inning and never looked back as they held on for the game five triumph.
Reggie Abercrombie delivered for the Goldeyes in the clincher. He had not one, but two – two run home runs and finished the night 3-for-4 at the plate with seven runs batted in.

Goldeyes starting pitcher Kevin McGovern bounced back from his worst showing of the playoffs. After surrendering five earned runs in a game two loss, McGovern was tremendous on Monday. He pitched six scoreless innings before being tagged for two runs in the seventh inning. He allowed only five hits while striking out five Wingnuts’ batters to earn the win.
The Goldeyes won the Northern League crown in 1994 and won their first American Association championship title in 2012.
