WINNIPEG — Defensive lineman Brandon Tennant will make his Winnipeg Blue Bombers debut on Sunday – roughly 48 hours after joining the team.

The Canadian will play in the Labour Day Classic against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Tennant was brought in to replace Jake Thomas who is out with a lower-body injury.
“It happened really fast,” said Tennant. “They called me (Thursday) night around 6 p.m. and I was on a plane at 8:30 p.m. It’s starting to settle in now.
“I just have to have my nose in the playbook and understand everything.”
Tennant had a sack and three tackles in eight games with the Roughriders last season. He was selected by Saskatchewan 59th overall in the 2015 CFL Draft. The Roughriders released Tennant this past April.
“He comes from a Laval program that has a winning culture,” said Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea. “You’re bringing in a guy who can take coaching and work hard.”
“Immediately you know the guy, on short notice, will learn what he has to learn to help us.”
The Bombers also released kicker Sergio Castillo, defensive lineman Sam Scott and receiver Jace Davis on Friday. All three players were internationals.

But despite all the hype surrounding the September long weekend tradition, the Bombers are treating the game just like any other.
“For me, it’s going about my business, watching every piece of film and just being ready to go,” said Bombers quarterback Matt Nichols. “Do all the things that have allowed us to win four in a row and continue down that path.”
