In July 2015, Winnipeg police charged Amsel with three counts of attempted murder and multiple weapons and explosive charges after allegedly sending letter bombs to two lawyers office’s and his ex-wife’s work place. Lawyer Maria Mitousis lost her right hand among other injures when a bomb exploded in her hands.

It took awhile before Amsel was able to retain counsel as many local lawyers cited a conflict of interest due to knowing Mitousis.

On Tuesday, the court heard Glazer was fired by Amsel on August 18.

“I just lost the trust and confidence (in Martin Glazer),” said a tired and gaunt looking Amsel.

The accused has not retained new counsel but expects to have a new lawyer in place by the weekend.

“I have someone in mind but it’s too early to say his name,” said Amsel. “He hasn’t fully agreed to it.”

Glazer refused Global News’ request for an interview.

Amsel is currently in Headingley jail awaiting trial, however, that trial could now end up being delayed, according to the judge.

The trial was expected to begin on October 26 and has been set for 45 days.

The case will be back in court at the beginning of September so the judge can determine if there will be a delay.

Amsel is also accused of another bombing at his ex-wife’s home in St. Clements in 2013.
