A Calgary man who pleaded guilty earlier this year to killing his wife in 2013 has died while in custody in Saskatoon.
Correctional Service Canada (CSC) said James Christians, 67, died Wednesday at a Saskatoon hospital.

He was serving an indeterminate sentence at the time at Saskatoon’s Regional Psychiatric Centre for second-degree murder and aggravated assault.
Christians pleaded guilty in February to killing his estranged wife, Carmel Christians.
On Oct. 13, 2013, Christians went to a home where Carmel was staying. He waited for her to leave, and then approached, striking her with a crowbar and stabbing her with a butcher knife.

He was originally charged with first-degree murder.
CSC officials said in a release that a review into the circumstances of his death will be held.
