Saskatoon police have been extremely busy these past few days dealing with thefts, stabbings, search warrants, drug possessions and armed robberies.

Since July 26, there have been nine stabbings in Saskatoon. Eight of the victims have walked to nearby hospitals.

“The last 10 days we’ve had eight people, today was number nine who have suffered stab wounds. Some of them are getting to hospital themselves. They’re not really wanting to share any details with us,” explained police public affairs director Alyson Edwards.

Police have also been dealing with property crimes. Two separate instances on Thursday have led to arrests for possession of stolen property and drugs.

“We also have a heck of a lot of property crime in our city,” Edwards said.

“The majority of it is happening because people are trying to get together enough money to pay for methamphetamine or another street drug.”

Police have noticed a rash of apartment and condo mailbox break-ins. Two have been reported this week, with approximately 20 so far this year.

Officials said the public doesn’t have to be alarmed, many of the incidents can be traced back to gang and drug associated behavior. However, police do want the public to be aware of what’s happening and report any suspicious behavior.
