A community is coming together to help six children who lost their mom in a house fire earlier this month in Port Moody.
According to the children — whose father has been charged in connection with the death of their mom — their insurance claim was denied because of their father’s alleged involvement.
Police were called to the home after reports of a domestic disturbance, but by the time they arrived the house was engulfed in flames.
The father has been charged with arson and second-degree murder.

The eldest child, who is 18 but whose name is under a publication ban, created a GoFundMe page hoping to raise funds to save their home.
The teen says they are looking for at least $250,000 to repair the home.
“We have deep connection to our house and our neighbours, and we hope to raise enough funds to rebuild the house back to habitable condition,” reads the message on the campaign page.
The community is rallying around the family, trying to raise funds to help them rebuild.

“We want to show them that we care for them, and let them see that ‘OK your mother is not there’ but they still have somebody out to care,” said Danny Vu, with Omega Cafe which is raising funds to help the children.
Neighbours are also joining the fundraising efforts, trying to help them in any way they can.
“They are the strongest children I’ve ever seen, probably stronger than most adult,” said Michelle Barry, one of the neighbours.
And the efforts of the community haven’t gone unnoticed.
“The support which we have received from our friends, neighbors, relatives, and community has been a ray of light in the midst of confusion, darkness and despair,” wrote the eldest on their GoFundMe campaign.
