The all-female cast of Repercussion Theatre’s Shakespeare-in-the-Park production of the Tragedy of Julius Caesar took to the stage in front of a packed crowd Tuesday.
This comes after “much ado about nothing” over language rules with Brossard city officials last December, when it looked uncertain as to whether the play would even be able to go on.
The uncertainty started when the troupe asked Brossard officials for permission to perform outside.
The city responded that there were no performances allowed outside in any language, but added they would be willing to talk about making an exception if the show was in French.

“There was a bit of a kerfuffle about whether we would be able to perform in Brossard,” explained Amanda Kellock, Repercussion Theatre’s artistic director.
Theatre lovers of all languages contacted the city to say they wanted the troupe to perform the play in the Shakespearean language.
The issue was resolved in January when the city’s planning committee agreed to allow Repercussion Theatre to perform.

On Tuesday, hundreds of theatre lovers showed up to Sorbonne Park in Brossard to show their support once again.
“We’ve got a multicultural and diverse population here, so I can’t image Shakespeare being performed in any other language other than English,” Brossard resident Carla Farnesi told Global News.
Since the incident in December, Kellock said the city has been very supportive and welcoming.
Repercussion Theatre’s 2016 Shakespeare-in-the-Park production runs from July 7 to Aug. 4.
