KELOWNA — Police are treating the sudden death of a 48-year-old woman as suspicious and have secured the scene around the Kelowna residence where her body was discovered.

RCMP were called around 1:45 a.m. on Saturday after reports of a sudden death at the home in the 800-block of Cawston Avenue.

“The circumstances surrounding the woman’s death are unclear at this time and police are treating her death as suspicious in nature,” Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey with Kelowna RCMP said in a news release.

A 53-year-old Kelowna man is in police custody for questioning, according to O’Donaghey.

“RCMP have reason to believe that this was an isolated incident and the public is not at risk,” O’Donaghey said.

The Kelowna RCMP Serious Crime Unit has taken over the investigation and police continue to work with the B.C. Coroners Service.
