Morweena’s James Reimer has signed a free agent contract with the Florida Panthers.

Reimer, 28, agreed to a five-year deal with the Panthers where the goalie will be tabbed as the backup to Roberto Luongo. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed but several reports have him earning an average of $3.4 million per season.

Reimer split time between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the San Jose Sharks last season. He finished the year with a combined 17-14-7 record with a 2.31 goals against average. He also posted three shutout in 40 games. He just completed a two-year contract that paid him an average of $2.3 million per season.

Reimer played with the Interlake Lightning of the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League before making the jump to the Western Hockey League with the Red Deer Rebels in 2005-06. He was originally drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the fourth round of the 2006 NHL Draft.
