Winnipegger named to Canadian cycling team for 2016 Olympics

Winnipeg cyclist Leah Kirchmann has been chosen to compete at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

The Games will mark the 25-year-old’s first Olympics. Kirchmann will race in the road cycling event from August 6 to 10.

Kirchmann finished third in the inaugural La course by Le Tour de France in 2014. The following year, she placed second in the road race and third in the time trial at the Canadian championships. Kirchmann won a silver medal in the road race at the 2012 Pan American Championships.

A total of 19 athletes were named to Canada’s cycling team for the 2016 Olympics.
