RCMP say a 4-year-old boy was found dead in a pool after being reported missing late Wednesday night – Jun 16, 2016

Just four hours after being reported missing, the body of 4-year-old Nicholas Baker was found by one of the many volunteers who were desperately searching for him.

Halifax District RCMP have confirmed the boy was found in a pool on his grandparents’ property early Thursday morning.

Officers were called to a home on Highway 224 in Elmsvale, N.S., about 10 minutes outside Middle Musquodobit, just before 10 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a report of a missing child.

Dozens of ground search and rescue members, the RCMP dog service and volunteers combed the area for hours, looking for any sign of the boy.

“Unfortunately and sadly, just after 2 a.m. this morning, we did locate the body of a four-year-old boy near the property,” RCMP Staff Sgt. Dave Thibeau said.

“It’s a tragedy for the family,” Thibeau said. “Our prayers are with the family.”

Thibeau says it was a long, exhausting and difficult night for all first responders, many of whom are parents themselves.

RCMP will not say how they believe Nicholas Baker died or what condition his body was found in.

“It’s too early in the investigation to tell,” Thibeau said.
