Police are increasing their presence in Musquodoboit Harbour, N.S. for what they describe as a welcome back to Nova Scotia party for the Hells Angels.

The event at the Gate Keepers clubhouse is supposed to herald the opening of a Hells Angels hang-around chapter.

Police expect about 150 people will be at the gathering.

Kerr said police are simply monitoring the situation because it is not illegal for the motorcycle club to gather or open a clubhouse.

“We don’t anticipate any risk for public safety. And in terms of drugs and violence, it is known that most of the impact is felt in the criminal world,” he said.

The Hells Angels ended their presence in the province in the early 2000s, after a series of police raids caused a drop in membership.

Kerr said officials are on alert for any increase in criminal activity.
