A laser was shone at a Nova Scotia air ambulance as it was in flight last weekend.

The incident happened on Saturday at 9:52 p.m. while the aircraft was about 450 metres above the ground. No patients were in the helicopter at the time.

“The laser beam did not make direct contact with either pilots’ eyes,  therefore vision impairment did not occur and the aircraft proceeded to its destination,” Sylvain Seguin, vice-president and COO of Canadian Helicopters Limited, told Global News in an email.

The Emergency Health Services’ LifeFlight helicopter previously took off from a helipad at Point Pleasant Park in Halifax.

“The laser strike was noticed by the first officer while flying over Dartmouth. The strike lasted for a duration of 3-5 seconds. The laser appeared to be originating from the north end of Halifax. Air Traffic Control was immediately advised,” said Seguin in an emailed statement.
