BRANDON, Man. — Brandon Wheat Kings’ flags fly throughout the city after the team won the WHL Championship.

Hockey fans in Brandon wanting to attend the Memorial Cup in Red Deer might have a tough time getting their hands on tickets though. According to the Ticketmaster website there are no more tickets available for the Brandon Wheat Kings’ first two round robin games.

“It’s a difficult situation because of the fact that the teams that go to the tournament aren’t determined until very late,” said Wheat Kings owner, head coach Kelly McCrimmon. “They have an allocation of tickets that go to the WHL champion, the Quebec league champion and the Ontario league champion. In our case our allocation is 80 tickets which in fact is more than Quebec and Ontario received in their allocation.”

The 80 tickets the Wheat Kings received are barely enough for staff and players families but they will be selling a very limited number of the unused tickets. They will go on sale at 9 a.m. Wednesday morning.

“You want to take care of your players first. We’ve made roughly 50 of those tickets available to them and then you got your scouts, you got your office staff, you got your families and really once we get through there, there’s just no tickets left.”

Just because the tickets are sold out on the official website, doesn’t mean tickets still can’t be found elsewhere. Some people have been able to secure tickets in the secondary market as fans of the other teams who didn’t qualify look to sell their tickets.

“I’m disappointed for our fans because our fans were a big part of us being in the position that we’re in,” said McCrimmon. “There’s been people that have got tickets on Kijiji, Stubhub. There’s some single game tickets available and that type of thing. It’d be nice if we could have 500 fans there but that’s just not the way it has played out for us.”
