Residents near High Level allowed to return home following evacuation due to wildfire

A mandatory evacuation order for areas south of High Level will be lifted as of noon Thursday.

Residents that live in Township 109 Range 19 west of 5 between Township Roads 1090 and 1094 and east to the Bushe Reserve were told to get out Wednesday afternoon. They will be allowed home at noon Thursday.

Residents that live at 17,18,19,28,29,30,31,32 Township 108 Range 18 west 5 will also be allowed to return home.

Residents are still asked to remain on immediate alert Thursday in case the fire situation changes due to weather conditions.

The fire was affecting visibility in the area Wednesday afternoon.

People were asked to go to the reception centre at the Town of High Level office to register and receive further instructions.

Bushe Reserve is less than 10 kilometres southeast of High Level.

High Level is approximately 400 kilometres northwest of Fort McMurray, where a massive wildfire has forced an evacuation of the entire city and prompted the province to declare a state of emergency.
