1 dead after truck and ATV collide near Grande Prairie, man charged

One man is dead and another was flown to hospital in serious condition after a crash between a pick-up truck and an ATV.

Grande Prairie officers were called to the Grovedale area – in a field west of Range Road 65 and Township Road 693 – shortly before 10 p.m. on Friday.

When they arrived on scene, a 21-year-old riding on the ATV as a passenger was dead and the 22-year-old driver of the ATV had to be airlifted to an Edmonton hospital in serious but stable condition.

Both young men were from Grovedale, Alta., which is about 20 kilometres south of Grande Prairie.

The family of the man who died has been notified.

RCMP said neither man on the ATV was wearing a helmet.

Cole Penson, 21, of Grovedale, Alta. was driving the truck. He has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death and impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.

Penson is scheduled to appear in court in Grande Prairie on Monday, May 2.
