Winnipeg Blue Bombers hire coach, sign two more players

File / Global News

WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers coaching staff continues to come together at a snail’s pace.

The Bombers named Glen Young the club’s new Linebackers coach. He replaces Greg Knox who has been shuttled over to the position as Defensive Backs coach.

Young, 46, won two Grey Cups with the Edmonton Eskimos. He played eight seasons in the CFL, also suiting up with the Toronto Argonauts and the Montreal Alouettes. He also played two seasons with the NFL’s San Diego Chargers and is a former teammate of current Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea with the Argos.

Most recently Young was the Defensive Co-ordinator/Assistant Head Coach with The College at Brockport.

Winnipeg now has nine coaches on the staff. They had 12 coaches on the payroll in 2015 but have not replaced Receivers coach Markus Howell or Special Teams Co-ordinator Pat Tracey. O’Shea could handle the special teams duties himself after assuming the position in 2015 after Tracey was fired.

The Bombers also added two players to the roster. They signed defensive back Justin Green and defensive lineman Emmanuel Dieke.

Green, 25, spent time on the practice rosters of both the New England Patriots and the Dallas Cowboys.

Dieke, 25, signed with the New York Giants after four years at Georgia Tech. He spent the 2014 season on the Miami Dolphins practice roster.
