Ontario Provincial Police say a five-year-old girl is dead after a van collided with a horse-drawn carriage in Grey County, north of Orangeville.
Police say nine people, including the young girl, were travelling in the carriage when it was rear-ended by a Pontiac Montana minivan on Highway 10 around 9:30 Sunday morning.
A 26-year-old woman who was also in the carriage suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to hospital, according to police.
Ornge says that there were six patients including the child who needed help.
They say the two people in the minivan were also hurt, but their injuries are not serious.
Highway 10 is closed between Road 180 and Road 190 while emergency crews investigate the scene.
Anyone with further information is asked to contact Grey County OPP or Crime Stoppers.
