NOTRE-DAME-DE-GRÂCE- It’s a worn down store front now, but soon the former Maz bar in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce will be turned into a new Coyote Ugly-style hang out called Jersey’s Saloon.

But residents aren’t interested.

“I don’t want to be the prudish person in Montreal,” said NDG councillor Peter McQueen.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“It’s OK downtown but to come into a residential area, I don’t think so,” he said.

McQueen told Global News he has received many complaints from residents who insist there’s no place for such a bar in the family-oriented borough.

The controversy started after a promotional video posted online showed scantily-clad girls dancing on the bar counter.

Owner Peter Sergakis doesn’t understand what the fuss is about.

“It’s not an erotic bar. It’s a western-themed pub. Since when is dressing western sexy?” he told Global News.

Sergakis is inviting politicians and residents who have concerns to a private opening next Thursday.

Those opposed to the project can also attend the next NDG borough council meeting on Monday.
