Manitoba Election 2016: Morden-Winkler riding

Summary: Incumbent and Progressive Conservative MLACameron Friesen seeks re-election against rookie politicians Elizabeth Lynch with the NDP, Benjamin Bawdon with the Liberals and Mike Urichuk with the Green Party.

Boundaries: This southeastern riding centres around two cities; Morden and Winkler. Highway 14 runs east/west and turns into Highway 3 halfway through the riding and goes directly through the two cities. The riding also holds the towns of Friedensruh, Schanzenfeld and Choritz.

Last Election: PC’s Cameron Friesen took home nearly 85 per cent of the votes while NDP Aaron McDowell took 11 per cent and Liberal Daniel Woldeyohanis took two.

History: This PC stronghold was previously known as the Pembina riding but changed to Morden-Winkler before the 2011 election. Since the 1970’s it’s been home a Tories stronghold.
