Over the past year, Justin Bieber has been photographed wearing a Nirvana shirt on multiple occasions.

For that fashion choice the Canadian singer was labelled a “poser” and was forced to defend his fandom of the former ’90s grunge band.

Now, after putting on his Purpose World Tour opening show in Seattle, Wash. (the perceived epicentre of grunge), Bieber, 22, is receiving the ire of Nirvana fans for wearing a Kurt Cobain T-shirt, two flannel shirts and ripped jeans. He also performed a set inspired by the band’s 1993 unplugged concert. (Fun fact: Bieber wasn’t even born when this show took place.)

Here’s some footage from his Seattle concert that provoked the rage of Nirvana fans:

This does kind of fit into the “heart-shaped box” category, doesn’t it? (Heart-Shaped Box is a Nirvana song from their In Utero album.)

Bieber’s stylist, Karla Welch, told Harper’s Bazaar in Nov. 2015: “Of course he’s a fan of Nirvana. I think it’s so funny that all these people are up in arms. I’m sure Kurt Cobain would be like — I mean I can’t speak for him, obviously — but I don’t think he was so snotty or that he would diss anyone who appreciated his music. I think he understood that that is like the antithesis of music appreciation.”
