Winnipeg Jets recall Melchiori again

Russ Hobson / Global News

WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Jets once again called up defenceman Julian Melchiori on an emergency basis. Dustin Byfuglien has been playing with an upper body injury and Melchiori would be available just in case Byfuglien can’t play against the Vancouver Canucks on Monday night.

Melchiori, 24, was recalled last Friday with Byfuglien’s status questionable. Byfuglien ended up playing in the Jets win over the Colorado Avalanche and Melchiori was a healthy scratch. He was returned to the Manitoba Moose after the game.

Melchiori appeared in 59 games for the Moose this season where he’s recorded two goals and four assists with 46 penalty minutes. He was originally selected by the Atlanta Thrashers in the third round of the 2010 NHL Draft. Melchiori appeared in just one NHL game in his career dressing for the Jets in 2014.
