Twenty government employees have received layoff notices as part of the health department’s restructuring plan.
In a release sent out Tuesday, the department states they want to put more resources into front line care, so changes had to be made.

The changes, which will take effect on April 1, will see 100 positions eliminated from the department. Sixty-two will be transferred to the Nova Scotia Health Authority, the IWK hospital and the Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage. Some positions or terms that are currently vacant will also end.
“Every decade our health-care spending has gone up, but we aren’t becoming any healthier as a result,” said Mr. Glavine.
“It’s time to change that by focusing on setting priorities and measuring results, so we know where our health care system most needs to improve.”
The department says it will also create 25 new jobs as part of the reorganization.
In March of last year, the government passed a bill reducing the number of health authorities in the province from 10 to two – The Nova Scotia Health Authority and the IWK.
