Snowmobiler dies in avalanche northeast of Prince George

An avalanche northeast of Prince George has claimed the life of a snowmobiler.

According to Prince George Search and Rescue, five snowmobilers were riding in the Torpy area Saturday when one of the members of the group was swept up in an avalanche and killed. The other four riders were uninjured and notified RCMP.

Prince George Search and Rescue was able to recover the body of the deceased individual. The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of the man who died as 41-year-old Angelo Kenneth Carpino from Prince George.

Police say the group was experienced and properly equipped.

The BC Coroners Service is investigating.

Avalanche Canada had issued a special public warning to be extra cautious in the backcountry this weekend, though its advisory didn’t apply to the region where the death occurred.
