UPDATED: Death of man found in Clayton Park apartment building ruled homicide

Halifax Regional Police say the death of a 58-year-old man whose body was found in a Clayton Park apartment building Thursday night is being treated as a homicide.

Police responded to a “trouble call” at the building, in 0-100 block of Harlington Crescent, around 10:13 p.m. where they located a deceased man in a hallway.

A short time later, a 20-year-old man was taken into custody near a Halifax Transit bus stop on Willett Street in relation the investigation.

The 20-year-old is being treated for a serious injury at the QEII Health Sciences Center; his current state isn’t allowing officers to speak with him.

Investigators say the results of an autopsy performed Friday confirmed that the death was a homicide.

The victim’s identity has not been released, pending notification of his next of kin.

Police believe the men knew each other, and don’t believe this was a random act. No other suspects are currently being sought, according to a police press release.

Investigators are currently canvassing the neighbourhood and forensic officers are still on the scene.
