WINNIPEG — Officers have upgraded charges in a homicide that happened at a Winnipeg hotel last month. On the morning of December 11, emergency crews responded to a hotel the 400 block of Westwood Drive where they found George Gabriel Flett, 57, of St. Theresa Point suffering from upper body injuries from an assault. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition but later died.

Police say he’d been a guest in the hotel the previous night when he’d been assaulted.

Darcy Jerome Beardy, 29, of St. Theresa Point had initially been charged with aggravated assault. Officers have since obtained a warrant of arrest for second degree murder for Beardy.

He remains in custody.
