Robert Denton, wife back in Canada thanks to donations

ENFIELD, N.S. – Nova Scotia cartoonist Robert Denton and his wife are back home thanks to donations of cash and Aeroplan points.

“It’s beyond words. What do you say? You say the standard, ‘Wow. Fantastic. Thank you.’ None of it says enough,” he said early Thursday morning after landing at Halifax Stanfield International Airport shortly before midnight.

Denton and his wife Stephanie moved to the UK two years ago. A skin infection left Robert, who has muscular dystrophy, requiring care, something his wife had to provide, resulting in both not being able to work.

As their finances dwindled, they said they found themselves not being able to afford a return ticket to move back to Canada.

Liberal MP Bill Casey said he learned about the Dentons’ situation in September. He became part of a fundraising effort to get them back home.
