Ten to 20 centimetres of snow is on the way to southern Manitoba according to Environment Canada. The weather service issued an alert Tuesday morning about a developing Colorado low expected to move in on the province Wednesday morning.
Between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. Wednesday, moderate to heavy snow will sweep through the southern portion of Manitoba leaving behind up to 10 centimetres by noon. Snow is expected to continue falling through the afternoon but won’t be as heavy as the morning with another eight centimetres possible.

Wednesday evening a brisk northwesterly wind will pick up, and combined with the fresh snowfall, will create localized areas of blowing snow which may cause limited visibility.
Snow could continue overnight but won’t be as heavy as throughout the day.

The city of Winnipeg is ready for the approaching snowfall according to a news release issued Tuesday morning. “Crews are monitoring road conditions and will apply winter ice control materials to improve traction,” the release said.
The annual snow route parking ban is still in effect and is the only ban in place in the city. For more information on the ban you can visit the City of Winnipeg website here.
