SASKATOON – A Saskatoon woman says she will start a new petition if a controversial trophy hunting expo finds a new host venue next month. African Events Canada was slated to hold a trophy hunting expo in late January at the Saskatoon Inn, according to the event organizer. An online petition against the event garnered roughly 3,500 signatures.

“I am in it for the animals and it’s just unethical,” said Lana Stark, the petition organizer.

“Hunting for sport is unethical and unsustainable and they’re targeting these animals that if they’re not already endangered, they’re on the decline.”

The petition called for the Saskatoon Inn to cease from hosting the event.

Global News reached out for a comment that was not returned by the hotel’s management; however, a receptionist said the event is not on its calendar.
