Committee gives thumbs up to funding new lemur exhibit at Calgary Zoo

CALGARY- The Calgary Zoo is one step closer to building a new exhibit called the Land of Lemurs.

On Wednesday, a city committee voted in favour of  giving the zoo $2.7 million in grant funding that will go toward constructing the $7.96-million exhibit.

The money will come from the Municipal Sustainability Initiative. The zoo will be relying on fundraising for the bulk of the funds.

The motion passed unanimously and will now go to council. The zoo hopes to have the Land of Lemurs up and running, next to the current lion exhibit, by 2017.
