WATCH: Paul Calnen gives location of Reita Jordan’s ashes in emotional video testimony

HALIFAX – After four days of deliberations, a jury of 8 women and 4 men found Paul Trevor Calnen guilty of second-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend, Reita Jordan.

Calnen’s murder trial lasted for three weeks. Part of the evidence submitted by the crown to prove their case was two separate videotaped statements that the 52-year-old gave to police.

The first statement was given shortly after Reita Jordan vanished and her disappearance was still considered a missing persons file. The second statement was given when Calnen was charged with murder. In it, police and Reita’s mother, Donna Jordan begged Calnen to tell them where Reita was.

A re-enactment that Calnen did for police in the Hammonds Plains home he shared with Jordan was also submitted as evidence in the trial. During it, Calnen can be seen telling police how Jordan died instantaneously by falling down a set of stairs during an argument.

Moments after being convicted of murder on Sunday morning, Calnen was taken into sheriffs custody to begin serving an automatic life sentence. A judge will determine when Calnen is eligable to apply for parole at a sentencing hearing on January 27, 2016.
