WINNIPEG — The Maric family has always had a close relationship with the Health Sciences Centre. Their company, Maric Homes, designs the houses and cottages for the HSC Home Lottery.
“You’re not just winning a prize, you’re contributing to the foundations research, hospital and patient care,” Marci said. “It was always a nice thing for the company to be involved in.”
That professional relationship became a lot more personal last February after Marci was diagnosed with cancer. She received treatment at the very hospital she’s been working with.
“I was treated at HSC, so this year, the fact that we did the house and the cottage, it was just a bit of a strange circumstance that I was now benefiting from the money ticket sales provided,” Marci said.
Marci’s husband Peri said seeing his lottery home plans come to life is always a rewarding experience, but it became more personal after her diagnosis. “You really get to see by fundraising what some of the stuff leads to and we saw it first hand at the leukemia ward at HSC,” Peri said.
Marci is in remission and hopes to make a full recovery, now fully knowing just how far the money raised for the hospital can go.
