WINNIPEG — The CIS announced University of Manitoba Athletic Director Coleen Dufresne has been elected to the Executive Committee of the International University Sports Federation or FISU.

Dufresne is only the second Canadian to ever be elected to the 23-member FISU Executive Committee and is the only North American currently on the committee. In an election held in Lausanne, Switzerland at the 34th FISU General Assembly, Dufresne was elected to the post as an assessor for a four year term.

“I am very appreciative of the support of my candidacy for FISU assessor extended to me from countries around the world,” Dufresne said through a media release. “I am looking forward to working with the other members of the Executive in promoting the philosophy and values of university sport, in developing university sport around the world, and in ensuring the best possible international experience for student-athletes, coaches, officials and fans.”

Dufresne has held the position of Athletic Director at the University of Manitoba since 2001. Previously she was the head coach of the Bisons Women’s basketball team from 1984 to 2001 and lead the Herd to three CIAU/CIS National Championships. She also represented Canada at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal.
