Pickup truck sparks fire after crashing into southern Alberta home

CALGARY – Investigators believe a house fire northeast of Brooks on Wednesday was caused by a pickup truck that crashed into the home.

Emergency crews found the rural house engulfed in flames when they arrived on scene at around 9 a.m.

Lamertus Van Oirschot, 70, was found dead inside the vehicle. He was the homeowner and lived alone on the property.

Brooks is located about 200 kilometres southeast of Calgary.
