Theresa Oswald won’t seek re-election

NDP MLA Theresa Oswald announced Tuesday she's not seeking re-election. Handout

WINNIPEG – NDP MLA Theresa Oswald is leaving politics. The former health minister who nearly unseated Premier Greg Selinger after a cabinet revolt last fall, informed Selinger Tuesday morning that she will not be seeking re-election this April.

The Seine River MLA was one of five Cabinet Ministers who spoke out against Selinger’s leadership after a PST hike. She lost by only 33 votes when she ran against him for leader last March.

“Serving the people of Seine River has been a rare privilege and I thank them for their support and trust over the past 12 years,” said Oswald. Former Global News anchor Peter Chura announced Tuesday morning he will be running in Seine River for the Manitoba Liberal party.
