Man charged in Calgary’s 20th homicide of the year

CALGARY – Police have charged a Calgary man with murder in connection with a homicide at a northwest motel earlier this week.

At about noon on Monday, Sept. 14, 2015, police were called to the Banff Trail Motel where they found the body of a man inside one of the rooms.

The victim has been identified as 41-year-old Christian Jovanovic of Calgary.

His death was initially considered suspicious, and homicide detectives were called in.

An autopsy was conducted on Wednesday.

35-year-old Marin Allan Rangers of Calgary is charged with one count of second-degree murder.

Police are still looking for a stolen vehicle that is believed to be connected to this case.

The vehicle is a grey, two-door 2015 Fiat 500M with Enterprise Rent-a-Car stickers.

The licence plate may be an Alberta plate numbered K-87992, but police believe the plate could also have been replaced.

Rangers is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015.

This is Calgary’s 20th homicide of the year.
